Do I need an appointment?Appointments are not needed for X-rays. Ultrasound exams need appointments. Please call us at (403) 744-4133 or (639) 477-0167 to book your appointment.
-
Do I need a doctor’s order to have an exam?Yes, medical imaging exams must be prescribed by a health professional to be conducted. Kindly bring the requisition form with you during the appointment.
-
What is the cost of the exam? The exam is covered as long as you have a valid Canadian Health Card.
-
How should I prepare for an examination?Kindly see our service pages for specific preparation information. Please refrain from wearing scented products on the day of your appointment.
-
How long will my exam take? This can vary depending on the complexity of your exam. The average time for an ultrasound is 30 minutes. Kindly arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment time to allow time for onboarding.
-
Can I bring family members/children with me?Unfortunately, we do not allow anyone else to be in the examination room as this is a medical procedure. Exceptions may be made for patients with physical or mental impairments, children, or in cases where an interpreter is required. In the case of obstetrical scans we do allow partners or a relative into the room once the medical portion of the exam is complete.
-
Can I still take my medication before my abdominal ultrasound? You can take your medications as prescribed with a very small amount of water.
-
Can I take pictures or videos during the exam?Unfortunately, the use of personal recordings is not permitted as this can interfere with the sonographer’s ability to perform the exam.
-
Can I get an ultrasound picture of my baby?Yes we provide free pictures print outs. You may request a digital copy for an additional charge.
-
Can the sonographer tell me my results at the time of the scan?Unfortunately, the sonographer is not permitted to provide or discuss results. The exam must be checked by the radiologist and the result will be sent to your doctor promptly.
-
When will my doctor get the report?Your results are reviewed first by the radiologist and the report is usually faxed to your doctor by the end of the business day. Urgent results will be phoned or faxed to your doctor as soon as possible. Your doctor also has the option to view your results online.
-
What will happen following my ultrasound exam? After the ultrasound exam, you may resume your normal activities, medications and diet unless instructed otherwise by your doctor. There are no side effects from the exam.
